Electricity as a secondary and versatile form of energy
Electricity, in today’s world, is considered the most convenient form of energy. Since it can be produced by many primary sources like gas, coal, petroleum, wind energy, solar energy, and hydro-power, it is considered to be a secondary source of energy. It is one of the energies that cannot be stored and needs a continuous connection. Imagining a life without electricity is very difficult for anyone today.
A secondary energy source is one which has been transformed from a primary energy source. Electricity is one amongst the most used energy of the ease in its transportability.
How is electricity made?
Electricity (Energy) cannot be made. A form of energy can only be changed to another. We use various natural forms of energy like solar energy and convert it into electrical energy.
Fuel is used to boil O, this produces pressurized steam, which then drives a turbine that is connected to coils of wire. When this turbine rotates, the coils of wire move through a strong magnetic field. Electrical energy is then produced due to electromagnetic induction in the generator.
Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Sources
There are two categories of primary energy sources. They are renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
Renewable energy is from an energy resource that is replaced rapidly by a natural process such as power generated from the sun or from the wind. It may be used directly or used to create other more convenient forms of energy. They are the ones that do not get depleted. A few examples are wind power, solar power, tidal power and geothermal.
Non – renewable energy is an energy that cannot be readily replaced by natural means on a level that is equal to its consumption. They are the ones that get depleted. A few examples are Oil, Coal and Nuclear Power.
Renewable energy is considered to be better than non-renewable energy because it does not run out.
